Oil Paintings

I created all of these paintings in a class taught at Evergreen by Tonya Kehoe. I had some experience with oil paints before this class but I was entirely self taught so it was great to learn the fundamentals. I am extremely proud of the paintings shown below, they are some of my favorite pieces of art that I have ever created.

This key was lots of fun to create. This was one of the first times in this class that we weren't supposed to follow a color guideline and had free reign to be creative. Finding the shadows and colors needed for this was challenging but a blast.

The reference image I used for this spider was of a mostly black spider so when I got started with my first few drafts of this painting I was struggling hard. I had to take the picture into photo editing programs and adjust the values until there were more defined shades to the spider and from there I let my creativity take over. Not every single color I chose was actually seen in the reference picture, I chose colors that were there to emphasize the difference in tone and hues.

This was the final project I created for the class. I chose to recreate the album cover from the band Death Grips album 'Bottomless Pit.' I spent over 10 hours on this painting and am super proud of it. I spent a lot of time focusing on the brushstrokes to add texture to the painting.
